Have your say

To help guide your feedback during this statutory consultation, we have divided the Project into six sections – three areas where we are proposing new infrastructure and three areas where existing infrastructure needs to be replaced or upgraded.

Detailed maps for each section have been labelled to help you navigate the information. These maps can be found on our website and printed copies are available to view at our consultation events and public information points.

Areas for new developmentAreas involving works to existing infrastructure
Section B – North west of York
Section D – Tadcaster
Section F – Monk Fryston substation
Section A – Osbaldwick substation
Section C – Reconductoring north of Tadcaster
Section E – Reconductoring south of Tadcaster

We encourage you to provide feedback on our updated proposals in these areas and expand on your responses using the free text sections provided, making us aware of any local factors that you think we should be aware of when refining our proposals.

To inform your feedback, you can learn more about the locations and other factors considered for the Yorkshire GREEN Project in our Statutory Consultation Booklet and other consultation materials. We have also produced a series of consultation plans, which includes detailed maps of the sections outlined above. These documents can be accessed on our website: nationalgrid.com/yorkshire-green

Areas of new development

Section B - North west of York

As presented in our consultation materials, we are proposing the following works in this area as set out on pages 15-23 of the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet:

  • two 400kV cable sealing end compounds, each approximately 2,000m2 in size.
  • underground cables (approximately 0.25km in length) connecting the two cable sealing end compounds.
  • a new 400kV overhead line connecting the existing 400kV line to a new substation.
  • a 400/275kV substation (now called ‘Overton substation’ and previously identified as York North), covering an approximate area of 82,000m2, to enable connection into the Electricity Transmission System.
  • two 275kV overhead lines (XC route and SP route) between the proposed Overton substation and the existing 275kV XC overhead line route to Monk Fryston, and SP route to Poppleton.
  • replacement of the existing 275kV overhead line (XCP route) from Moor Monkton and extending a new section to the Overton substation.

400kV cable sealing end compounds and associated infrastructure (including underground cables)

5. Looking at the proposed locations of the two new cable sealing end compounds and associated infrastructure, as shown in Figure 3 on page 17 of the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet, do you support our proposals?

6. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your response to Q5?

Please elaborate on any other issues we should consider/be aware of when refining the location of the two cable sealing end compounds and associated infrastructure in this area.

400kV overhead line

7. Do you support our proposals to install a new 400kV overhead line in this area, as described on pages 15-17 in the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet?

8. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your response to Q7?

Please elaborate on any other issues we should consider/be aware of when refining the location of the new 400kV overhead line in this area

400/275kV Overton substation (previously known as York North) and associated works

9. Do you support the proposed location of the Overton substation, as shown in Figure 5 on page 21 of the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet?

10. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your response to Q9?

Please elaborate on any other issues we should consider/be aware of when refining the location of the 400/275kV Overton substation and associated infrastructure

275kV overhead lines

For the alignment of the new 275kV lines (described on pages 20-21 in the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet) between the proposed new Overton substation and the existing 275kV Poppleton to Monk Fryston (XC/XCP) overhead line, we now have a preferred option (which was presented as Option 1 at our non-statutory consultation).

Details on why Option 1 is preferred are set out in the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet.

11. Looking at the new 275kV overhead lines, do you support the proposed route and rationale behind the potential alignment of the overhead lines?

12. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your response to Q11?

Please elaborate on any other issues we should consider/be aware of when refining the location of the potential alignment of the proposed 275kV overhead lines.

Realignment of the XC/XCP overhead line, south-east of Moor Monkton

Between Moor Monkton in the west and Skelton in the east, we are proposing to replace the existing 275kV XC/XCP overhead line (approximately 5km in length), with some pylons being permanently removed. This line would be replaced with a new overhead line located further south-east of the village of Moor Monkton. An overview of our proposals in this area can be found on page 22 of the Yorkshire GREEN Statutory Consultation Booklet.

13. Looking at the new location of the overhead line to the south east of Moor Monkton, and removal of existing infrastructure, do you support our proposals in this area?

14. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your response to Q13?

Please elaborate on any other issues we should consider/be aware of when refining the location of the potential realignment of the XC/XCP overhead line, south-east of Moor Monkton.
